One thing we often struggle with is ways to stay organized throughout our busy lives. Of course, it doesn’t help when your husband throws his jackets over the dining room chairs. The kids are worse, they can’t even find their toybox under all those toys. The laundry NEVER STOPS and where did all of these knick-knacks come from?

Once it all builds up it is so hard to even begin sorting through it. Zerorez® is here to help! We have put together a comprehensive list of ways to help you stay organized this coming year. But before we begin let’s take a look at the reason why we are all so disorganized.

Clutter or owning too much stuff:

In our consumer-based economy we are constantly urged to spend our money on things we don’t need. Things that might seem like a good idea at the time turn out to just be dust collectors. Christmas gifts from in-laws tend to fall under this category. After a while, we stop finding places to put everything and it starts overflowing into our living spaces.

Putting it off:

Given the option to do something you hate (like cleaning) or getting on Pinterest and looking at cute bedroom ideas… Which one do you typically choose? Procrastinating is SO easy nowadays especially when it comes to things that aren’t pressing. If you don’t want to do it now, do you really think you’ll have the motivation to do it later?

Expecting Perfection:

Having unrealistic expectations opens the door for disappointment which leads to discouragement. Eventually, the entire project will just be left alone because there are only negative emotions connected to it.

Don’t know where to begin:

There are a million different ways to do everything. When it comes to being organized there is no exception to this rule. We all do things differently.  After putting something off for so long everything has built up to one giant problem. In this situation, it can be hard to find out where to even start so you just don’t.

Indecision:

A lot of projects are put off because we don’t want to make a decision right now. Or we need to sleep on it.  Once it gets put out of our mind we lose the ambition to think about it again. Years go by… And you still have a subfloor in your living room because you don’t know what kind of flooring to install.

How to Fix the Problem

Declutter:

Go through all of your material possessions and keep everything that has a purpose in your life. Donate it if you haven’t used it in the past year. There are millions of different storage ideas on the internet. From different shelving ideas to drawer organizers you can find it all.

Utilizing every inch of space in your kitchen by hanging the pots and pans from the ceiling. Install a shelf above the toilet in a cramped bathroom for extra storage. When you are preparing for a visit from Zerorez® you will quickly realize how much stuff you have fit in one room. You will quickly realize what’s worth putting back in that area and what would be good to toss.

Just do it:

Make a list of everything that needs to be organized.  How are those papers on your desk coming along? What about painting the living room? Have you had the floors professionally cleaned in a while? Write it all down!

Making a list could be the first thing on your list, once you’re finished you can cross that item off. 😉  Don’t put off getting those floors cleaned either!  We have a couple of cleaning specials throughout the year. Don’t procrastinate getting your tile cleaned during the month of September or your carpets cleaned during July.

Send in the Pro’s:

You don’t fix your own air conditioner, do you? Instead of Googling the best grocery store carpet cleaner (there is no good answer) hire a professional. Those cheap carpet cleaning machines leave behind chemical residue. Residue attracts more dirt over time, before you know it, your carpets are worse than they were, to begin with. If you are a perfectionist with high expectations, it will be much easier to just call the pros.

Our cleaning process Leaves Nothing But Clean®

Start at the beginning:

As a general rule of cleaning, start at the top and work your way down. Make sure everything has a home, if not, find one or get rid of it. We would start by clearing out the junk drawers and linen closets. You can then use that cleared-up space to put objects from other areas in your home. Storage containers are going to be your best friend.

Think minimal. A clean house is a clear mind.

Finish it off with getting the carpet and tile cleaned by Zerorez®

Make a decision:

Stay focused on the task at hand and pull the trigger. It’s good to think through decisions and read into things but don’t put it off or multitask.

Additional Tips and Tricks To Stay Organized

  • Listen to podcasts, music, or books to keep you entertained. It can be mind-numbing if you are going through the closet and sorting out the good towels from the old ones… Put on a thought-provoking podcast and learn something while you are working.
  • Prioritize the areas you want to clean the most and start there. Maybe even start with something easy and build up some determination.
  • Do one thing at a time. It’s easy to get sidetracked but stay focused. At some point, you may find yourself starting in the kitchen and ending up in the kids’ room. Looking back you haven’t gotten much done because you’re bouncing around too much. Don’t get overwhelmed.
  • Make sure everything has a home. This is helpful when you are finished to keep it nice and organized forever.
  • Once you have everything organized set up a daily routine to maintain it! Put things away immediately
  • Have less stuff
  • Cut down on mail by signing up for e-bills

Now that you’ve got the rest of your house covered, let Zerorez® maintain your carpets, tile, and upholstery.
