Will mold grow under my carpet after a cleaning?

Well isn't that just one loaded and very heart wrenching question! Will mold grow under my carpet after a cleaning?

Well, not to fret friends, we have your answers. Actually, we have two answers for you- Yes, and No. Did that answer not quite satisfy your curiosity?

Yeah, we didn't think so. So allow us to elaborate on this. This will be funā€¦

What is about you, mold?

Now, let's make sure one thing is clear- we are most certainly not scientists! And mold is 100% science. So in the spirit of that- imagine, if you will, that delicious loaf of white bread paying guard dog in your pantry.

Have you ever noticed that having your bread in the pantry grows mold faster than keeping the loaf in the refrigerator?

That's because mold lusts after dark, moist, and warm places. Particularly with bread, just sitting in there steaming and sweating in it's plastic package! Mmm, doesn't that just sound tastyā€¦

The refrigerator is opposite all of thatā€¦ with the exception of the dark partā€¦ until, you know, you open the fridge. Anyways! The point is that the refrigerator keeps the bread chilled, and the cold practically hardens the bread so there really isn't nearly as much moisture!

Though mold on your bread is much different than the mold that could potentially grow under your carpet, some similarities are the same! Mold is swirling in the air constantly- it's always around. Isn't that fun to think about?

And of course, all mold has a definite obsession for dark, moist, and warm places. But the similarities of bread mold, and carpet mold end there. You know, like the fact that bread actually feeds mold with it's nutrients, whereas carpet does not have nutrients.. Well, do some old food particles count?

Yuck..

Again, we are undeniably not scientists! So back to your questions under what circumstances can mold grow under your carpet? And how can you prevent this from happening?

When can mold grow under the carpet?

Well, let's explain the answer of "yes" in this loaded question. Mold CAN grow in your carpet, but in fact, it is not as often as you might think. Thank goodness right?

Your backstabbing mold friends will find their way around after a significant amount of water has been thoroughly etched into your carpet! So, you know, major floods, leaks, or after a traditional carpet cleaningā€¦ By traditional of course, we mean your typical carpet cleaning company that goes in with water, detergents, and soaks your carpet to clean it?

Have you noticed that after a traditional carpet cleaning it takes a day, or MORE for your carpet to fully dry? Well.. be warned. That is happy hour for that mold! That is their time to shine- if your carpet is soaked for more than 24 hours, you may have a problemā€¦ Of course, that is not ALWAYS the caseā€¦ but it is more often than not. We promise we are not trying to be negative Nellys over here!

You are probably wondering, "Well I don't plan on getting my carpet cleaned professionally EVER again." PLEASE do not think that! oh no, because you absolutely need your carpet cleaned professionally, maybe you just need to look elsewhere?

Preventing carpet-soaked mold

This answer is probably pretty obvious at this point in our not-so-scientific explanations. You can avoid carpet mold by not thoroughly soaking your carpet! But we do not want you to give up on carpet cleaning out of fear of mold. Though that's a very understandable fearā€¦ Mold is creepy, and scary.

Nut instead, perhaps it is time to find a new professional carpet cleaning company- one that does not soak your carpets through and through, and does not result in insanely long drying times for your carpet.
